This is the movie poster I made for the indie film Suntok Sa Buwan directed by Bianca Catbagan and Jose Antonio De Rivera. I was inspired by the design sense of the 50s-60s boxing posters like the Thrilla in Manila poster.
Lucky me, I get to contribute work alongside other designers Paulina Ortega, Carina Santos, Rob Cham, Kristine Caguiat and Soleil Ignacio.
The film runs only ‘til tomorrow so catch it at these times:
Monday

Wincy Ong on Quark Henares' movie "Rakenrol"
I really wished I’ve seen the movie on its private screening. I really wish there’s a chance for me to actually see it.
Here’s an engaging, witty and insightful review by my friend Wincy Ong. I actually remember our conversations about music and art, making music and art and the struggle behind it. Here are my favorite parts:
“Perhaps Henares’ picture of a true musician is Odyssey, the humble guy who writes songs in his bedroom; the guy in t-shirt and jeans, with a slight beer paunch; the rockstar with a day job.”
Here’s another:
“Perhaps the icing is more enjoyable than the cake. And so what? The strictures of narrative can be boring anyway. Perhaps Rakenrol should be as plotless as real life itself. Or pointless as rock n’ roll itself.”
And even in his review, I can see how can always zoom in to the details and zoom out for a bigger picture. I like how he did not over think, over analyzed.

My officemate, John Ed De Vera, found his old instamatic (MINOLTA HI-MATIC SD2) and experimented with it! And the photographs turned out amazing. Reminded me of Kaity Chua (who’s now in London studying photography). It feels like we’re back in the 90’s - when we used to pair Dr. Marten’s with dresses and make mixtapes.
